Cosmople-Fish
A Geography Variation on traditional "Go Fish" for Pre-Schoolers and ages 5 to 7
But all first time cosmopolis players should play it once.
Object: To collect SETS of 2 to 5 cards of the same color
Number of Players: 3 to 6
Card Deck: Play with all 42 Regional city cards only. Remove the white-centered cards. Deal according to the number of players:
3 players - 5 cards to each.
4 players - 4 cards to each.
5 players - 3 cards to each.
6 players - 3 cards to each.
Rules: Take turns being dealer for each round (deal) of the game. Player on the left of the dealer plays first. A game is as many rounds as there are players so everyone gets to deal once. Deal to each player and put the rest of the cards (the draw pile) within reach of all players.
Play of the game:
(1) First player shows a card and asks any other player:
"Do you have any cards this color?" If the player being asked has any, all such cards of that color are given to the player asking for them and the asking player plays down all cards of that color. If not, then that player answers, "No, Go Fish" and the asking player takes a card from the draw pile. The next player follows the same procedure with a question to any player except the one just questioned. Sets are played down only during a turn.
(2) But if a player holds a pair (or more), at that player's turn, all the cards of that color may be played down without asking for cards. Such a player then draws a card from the draw pile.
(3) Single cards can be added to a set during a player's turn. Then a card is taken from the draw pile. In this play, no requests for cards are made. So asking for a card does NOT have to happen on every turn. But when asking for a card or in answering a question, players only ask or answer for the cards they can see.
The backs of the cards can be seen by all the other players, but those are not part of the playing. But any time a player is not involved in asking or answering a question they can look at both sides of all their cards and re-arrange them as they wish.
(4) Play goes on in this way until the draw pile has disappeared. But this is not the end of the round. Players continue showing cards and requesting them until there is a round of questions without any cards being given up. The round is now over and scores are counted.
(5) Sometimes players can end up with no cards in their hand when several players have successfully asked for their cards. If that happens, the players simply draw a card for their next three turns but doesn't ask others for cards until they have such a three card hand.
Ending the Game: The round is over when the draw pile has no cards AND no one is able to make a play. Scores are counted, the cards shuffled and the player to the left of the previous dealer deals the next round. The game is over when every player has dealt a round.
Scoring: Score 1 point for each card played in a set of 2 or more cards. Cards still in a player's hand at the end of a round do not score points.
